Getting started with Hello World Learning
Getting started with Hello World Learning
Your next step starts here
Hello World Learning offers self-paced courses, including free learning opportunities. You can take small steps, practise useful skills and return when you are ready. You do not need to share private experiences to complete a course.
1. Choose a course and enrol
Open Courses and select More info to read about a course. For a free course, choose Start learning, log in or create an account, then use Moodle’s free self-enrolment option. For a paid course, choose How to enrol and follow the approved instructions. Your account keeps your saved work and progress together. If you already enrolled, Continue learning opens the course.
2. Learn, practise and save
Begin with Start here. Read the numbered Learn lessons, try the practice and select Add submission. Save text or a file with Save changes. Reopen the practice to check your saved work; use Edit submission when you want to revise it. These practices are private to you and authorised course staff. Do not include passwords, health details, private addresses or other sensitive information. Use fictional examples when suggested.
3. Return to a lesson
Dashboard → Recently accessed items provides shortcuts to activities you opened. My courses shows enrolled courses; Continue learning opens the course. The course index drawer lists each unit and its activities. Your own dashboard layout may differ if you have customised it.
4. Inspect completion ticks
Readings are completed when viewed. Required practice is completed when saved. Mark the unit self-check complete after checking and revising your work. Optional PDFs, H5P practice and feedback are not required. In the course block drawer, open Course completion status → More details to inspect remaining requirements. A tick records an activity requirement; it is not proof of a skill or a certificate by itself.
5. Finish the knowledge check
The final quiz unlocks after the required course activities. It has 20 questions, no time limit and unlimited retries. You need 16 correct answers (80%) to pass. Review the feedback and return to the relevant lessons before trying again. Your highest score is retained.
6. Download your certificate
Complete all requirements shown in the course, including the final quiz and any required portfolio approval, then open the certificate in Finish your course. Check your name in your Moodle profile before downloading. My certificates provides another route to issued certificates. Hello World issues a course-completion certificate, not an accredited qualification or an identity check. A verification code or QR link can reveal the certificate’s name, course and award details publicly; it does not reveal your email or submitted work.
Optional interactive practice
Some units offer three short H5P questions with immediate feedback. Use Next at your own pace, read the explanations and retry freely. These optional exercises do not change your grades, completion requirements or certificate eligibility.
Using a shared device safely
Use your own account and avoid saving your password on a shared device. Download work only where you can keep it private. Log out when finished and remove your downloaded personal files. If you use Google sign-in, check that you also leave the Google account safely on a shared browser.
Learning on a phone or offline
Reading works on phones. Some practical document, spreadsheet and presentation tasks need a suitable tablet or computer. A written plan is useful preparation, but cannot replace hands-on use of a feature your phone does not support. The Moodle app can download supported content, but enrolment, login, final quizzes, certificates and verification need a connection. Offline submission and synchronisation depend on the activity and app; check that work is saved after reconnecting. Our separate phone-test site uses fictional accounts while we verify these behaviours.
Need help?
Email info@projecthelloworld.org. Describe the course, activity and what happened without sending your password or sensitive personal information. Learning FAQs are also available on the home page.
Paid courses and reviewed portfolios
Free courses are labelled Free. Paid courses show their fee and approved payment instructions on their information page. Payment and enrolment are separate for each course. Do not pay for a hidden draft: sales open only after Hello World confirms payment details and refund terms. Staff verify the transaction before manually enrolling the matching Moodle account.
Some courses require a portfolio reviewed by staff as well as coursework and a final quiz. Read the published rubric before submitting, save a draft, and select Submit assignment when ready. If revision is needed, use the reopened attempt and feedback to improve your work. Payment approval does not replace portfolio approval. Certificates are included in the course fee. Completing facilitator preparation does not automatically grant teaching permissions.
